This sweet, gentle little boy just got a new sponsor!! Thanks James B for the Spalding love!!
Hi there! I’m Spalding! I’m a 1 ½ year old German Shepherd Dog mix, currently staying in a foster home with a work from home human and two other dog friends. I have a tall, slender build and weigh about 71 pounds. I’m very chill, friendly, social, eager to please, easy-going, playful, sweet, and I occasionally make funny groans to get humans to come give me belly rubs!
I’m a bit submissive and nervous, and may be still working things out from my past life… I think maybe I just need more practice in the world to help with my confidence. I would like to share mealtimes with my people, but if you’d rather not share, I guess that’s okay too… as long as you’re really sure there’s nothing left for me…?
I’m no social butterfly, but I’m good meeting all sorts of different folks including people of all ages and other dogs, too. I currently live with two other dogs. They can be a little crazy sometimes, but that’s okay because we’re all best pals! I’m pretty smart and work things out quick enough but will need some help figuring out new rules. I will also need help building up my confidence. Hint: having other dogs around would be an advantage.
I have excellent house manners and I get free reign of the house. I mostly hang around in the main room with my foster dad and other dogs. There are several dog beds, crates, and the couch we all share and rotate regularly. One of my favorite things is napping. And I am totally housebroken. – I have free access to the backyard. I love the backyard!
I love car rides too- long or short; just bring me along! I don’t live with any cats, but there are some street cats that come to visit and eat with us. I like visiting them through the screen door. I’ve also seen one of them on our walks and think he’s very nice. Speaking of walks, I love going out! But, I haven’t done it as much I’d like, so we need lots of practice! I know some of the basic rules, like sit and stay – and then we get treats, right!? I’ll just need some reminders to remember it all.
The most important thing to know is that I love belly rubs, so be prepared to pamper me!
Last important note:…. I came out of the shelter infected with heartworms. Fortunately, I’ve had help getting rid of them, so I’m in the final stages of treatment. That means I need to remain relatively calm for a few more weeks, but things are looking way better for me now!
If you’d like to meet me, I’ll be waiting in Sacramento.
